This Kauri was milled in the North Island and is now a protected native tree.
The roof & flooring are made from Welsh Slate brought to NZ with the pioneers, as ballast in their early sailing ship. The tiles were first used for 100 years on Dunedin’s St. Hilda’s College roof.
This one bedroom retreat has its own private entrance leading to a recycled staircase that was salvaged from the Seaman’s Mission building- also in Dunedin. The house and apartment feature stained glass windows and doors, all with historic connections.
The apartment was built in the early 2000’s using the same skilled architect and techniques used for the original Kauri House. It was built with our guests in mind and features an open living/dining area with expansive views, kitchen facilities for light cooking complete with a BBQ on the deck and an extremely comfortable bedroom with en-suite. Perfect to hideaway with your partner in summer, autumn, winter & spring.
The climate in Central Otago brings out vivid colours & contrast in every season, which is evident simply by looking out the expansive windows over the established gardens. You are invited to wander in the beautiful gardens of Kauri House, landscaped and cared for by its owners.
We began hosting guests in 2016 as we realised the passion that we both have for people and their cultures. Being ambassadors for the local area has always brought joy to both of us, as there is so much magic to be shared in the Wanaka Lakes District and we often find that guests don’t have enough time to discover this without being pointed in the right direction.
The B&B experience at Kauri House Apartment will be memorable. Your delicious cooked or continental breakfast will be delivered to your room at the time of your choice. We cater for all dietary requirements, simply send an email to let us know in advance.
Snacks are provided and there are coffee & tea making facilities in the kitchen. Most of the food provided is home grown & natural.
There is always a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for you upon arrival.
