Spring In Wanaka Accommodation

Winter & Spring In Wanaka

Fresh crisp snow and fragrant blossoms.

Lake Wanaka is a magical part of New Zealand all year round and we love August. Winter is still in full swing, and spring is beginning to bring sunny days and warmth.

The snow continues to fall with the odd southerly storm, making the mountains a magnificent sight with snow covered slopes glistening in the distance as seen from our self-catering, and private accommodation. Kauri House Apartment is the perfect hideaway for couples to enjoy watching the weather changes and the contrast it brings over the lake.

Late winter, all the way from August to October, is a great time for skiing in the powder snow at Treble Cone or Cardrona Ski-fields. Wanaka is bustling, with a great energy, bringing together snow lovers from all over. The growing ski resort has everything you may need for the perfect ski holiday, from the boutique shops and restaurants to cinemas, bars, spas & wineries… What more might you need?

Even the best skiers need a day off… On your rest days from the ski-fields we have an abundance of recommendations.

Outdoors

The now famous Blue Pools are excellent to visit. Enjoy the scenic drive, alongside Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka on your journey to Makarora where the Blue River meets the Makarora River. Walk the short track, then over the 2 swing bridges, set in the heart of the NZ Beech Forest and you will likely see Trout and Salmon swimming far below in the crystal-clear pools.

indoors

There are excellent indoor activities should you have the luck of being in Wanaka when fresh snow is falling, such as a visit to the Wanaka Toy & Transport Museum This is fabulous for every age, featuring one of NZs largest private collections of fascinating displays. We have been many times over the years and there is always something new to see.

Relaxation

LANDeSCAPE is only 10 minutes by car from the Kauri House accommodation near Wanaka.  This beautiful natural property offers e-bikes to enjoy on the private farm followed by warm wood-fired hot tubs with panoramic views of Lake Hawea. This is the perfect way to soak your muscles after some serious skiing.
